Suriname is located at the north side of the continent South-America en is positioned at 30° NB of the equator. Suriname is a country of about 164.000 km². Only a small part is inhabited, mainly along the coast. Most of the country is uninhabited virgin tropical Amazonian rainforest, with a unique biodiversity. There are slightly more than 480,000 inhabitants. This small population harbours a great variety of ethnicities, cultures and religions, with much mixture and integration.
Suriname has a tropical climate en knows 4 seasons, these are: - The short rainy season from the second half of December till the first half of January
- The short dry season, from the second half of January till the first half of March
- The long rainy season, from the second half of March till the end of July
- The long dry season, from the beginning of August till the first half of December
The official language of Suriname is Dutch. Suriname has a native tongue, so called Sranan Tongo. Most residencies speak and understand English.
